Department of Play Block Party

Block Party reimagines the building block as an assemblage of two interlinking units. People are invited to assemble the jumbo foam blocks into fantastical shapes.

The block units are made of lightweight, resilient foam and fit together to create airy, larger-than-life curvilinear structures. Structures are limited only by collaborators’ imagination in free play. Blocks can be connected in multiple ways, and are lightweight and large enough for people of all ages to easily create large constructions. The block system also has capacity to produce a space-filling polyhedron if blocks are arranged in a 1:2 ratio by alternating the “x” and “y” block shapes at right angles.

Department of Play, the creator of Block Party, is a “lost” city department that creates momentary fictions in public space. Come play!
