DESCRIPTION

In recent years there has been a surge in tools that facilitate creative works using AI (such as DALL-E and Chat-GPT) and with that has come both creative uses for those tools and ethical questions around artist ownership and copyright. The NSF Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Fundamental Interactions (IAIFI) will host a workshop to share how these tools work and what ethical concerns arise in relation to them. Attendees will then be invited to submit AI-generated poetry and prose to be read and displayed at a reception. Anyone who submits will be entered to win a gift card. Refreshments will be provided.

This event is co-sponsored by the MIT Media Lab and is made possible with funds from the MIT School of Science Quality of Life program.

FURTHER INFORMATION

WORKSHOP LEADERS

Carolina Cuesta-Lazaro is an IAIFI Fellow interested in developing robust and interpretable Machine Learning models that can guide us towards future discoveries in physics. Her main research interests lie on the intersection of cosmology and AI.

Hope Schroeder is a PhD student at the MIT Media Lab and the MIT Center for Constructive Communication. She is interested in the spread and impact of ideas through information and media networks.

12 pm
DESCRIPTION

Human longevity potential colliding with our adoption and use of AI, automation and other technologies is collectively disrupting how we live, work, learn, and play. In this session at the Cambridge Senior Center, join MIT AgeLab researchers for a discussion exploring our current understanding of the evolution of the longevity economy. They will share key insights from existing projects focused on topics like the adoption of smart technologies for aging-in-place, research with the ‘oldest old’ of older adults and family caregivers, and use of an age empathy suit for education and learning. Learn from MIT-driven insight to maximize your 100 years of life. Light refreshments will be provided.

*** Attendees should provide their own lunch. ***

ABOUT THE ORGANIZER

The MIT AgeLab was started in 1999 by our Founder and Director, Dr. Joe Coughlin. We are a multidisciplinary research program that works with business, government, and non-profit organizations to improve the quality of life of older people and those who care for them. Our research covers home logistics and services, transportation and livable communities, caregiving and wellbeing, retirement and longevity planning and more. Cross-cutting all of our research is an interest in understanding and elevating the resources that can help people live longer, better.

DESCRIPTION

Get ready to be part of an exclusive behind-the-scenes reveal of iFp Emerging Innovators’ latest project: “Transforming AI: Equity, Justice, and You.”

Our Innovators, all aged 14 and up, are excited about the potential of AI tools. However, they are also deeply concerned about the rising mistakes and harms that come with the technology. Join us for a special open house event where you’ll get an insider’s look into our early research.

Your feedback will play a pivotal role in shaping the final version of “Transforming AI” which will run throughout the school year for students in grades 7-12.

We’re wrapping up the event with a fireside chat, moderated by iFp Innovators themselves. If you’re passionate about making AI more equitable and just for all, we can’t wait to welcome you!

This program is appropriate for adults and teens.

DESCRIPTION

With the rising popularity of generative AI tools such as Chat-GPT and DALL-E, it can be increasingly difficult to tell the difference between AI-generated content and human-generated content. Join the Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Fundamental Interactions (IAIFI) to learn about how generative AI works and see if you can spot the difference. Ask the same question to a virtual physicist and a real live physicist and see what answers you get! Then test your skills by comparing galaxy images from the James Webb Space Telescope with Dall-E generated galaxy images—can you tell which ones are real?

ABOUT THE ORGANIZER

The Personal Robots group bridges the gap between intelligent personified technologies and human collaborative behavior. We take a multidisciplinary approach that integrates human-centered design, psychology, aesthetics, and advanced computation to create personified technologies that can better understand, naturally communicate, collaborate, and support people more like a helpful companion than a smart tool.
