Microscopic Coloring Book

A scanning electron microscope (SEM) is an exciting tool for exploring the tiniest microscopic details of the world around us. But because the microscope uses electrons to create and image, rather than light, the resulting images have no color.

Help us add color to our growing collection of SEM images of everyday (and not so every day) things in our community-wide project. Visit our online gallery of black and white images, select one or more to download, then colorize them to life following our easy-to-follow instructions. Once finished, upload your image to our SEM image showcase to share your creations!
