Cambridge Science Festival 2023

This year’s Festival runs from Monday September 25 to Sunday October 1.  Events take place at venues across the city, with our beloved Science Carnival returning to the Kendall/MIT Open Space on Sunday October 1, between noon and 4pm.

The Festival Digital Guide, with details about every CSF event and activity, will go live at the beginning of September. Until then, you can find out more about this year’s programming below:

In the Neighborhood

Monday 9/25 – Sunday 10/1

Don’t miss the 75+ festival events taking place in neighborhoods across the city, in local libraries, open labs and a host of public spaces. Events, workshops, programs, lectures and more.

Lunch & Learn

Monday 9/29 – Friday 9/29 • 12-1pm

Come to one of over 25 weekday, lunchtime lectures throughout the city. Topics range from mushroom foraging to cognitive learning, writing sci-fi villains to genome editing. Full details, including links to reservation pages, will be published in early September.

Health Equity Day

Be a part of the conversation – the festival offers over a dozen programs around the theme of Health Equity.

Art at Night

Friday 9/29

CSF shines a spotlight on the innovative and diverse East Cambridge Creative Corridor. Featuring the creative components and science elements of local visual and performing artists.

Science x Fashion

Saturday 9/30

CSF partners once again with Boston Fashion Week to present a dynamic day of science-focused fashion content. From interactive workshops, panel discussions and lectures to pop-up exhibits, meet-the-maker opportunities and our evening runway show, featuring collections by designers at the forefront of fashion innovation.

KINETIC COMMUNITIES

Saturday 9/30

Join us and be a link in the chain of the Cambridge community! Over 20 community partners and neighborhood groups amass to create a human kinetic chain reaction running a mile long through Cambridge – from City Hall to the Charles River. This project is deeply rooted in cross-community engagement and will include 250+ people working together to build a chain reaction of human kinetic energy ending at the river with a circus performance.

Science CARNIVAL

Sunday 10/1

A family-friendly science extravaganza, Carnival is a beloved regular fixture of CSF and annually attracts 10,000 people. Featuring over 100 activity booths, demonstrations, live music and events, the ever-popular Robot Petting Zoo and Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream Freeze-Off competition. Carnival is an adventure playground for inquisitive visitors of all ages – we can’t wait to see you there and celebrate our diverse, creative community together.
